I could write about how JAG finished his Championship with 5 majors - 3 being from breeder judges. Or I could say that his pedigree contained Jo who won the GRCA National in 93 and Ready who is the only golden who won the GRCA National 4 times. Or I could say that he cleared all his clearances with ease until he was 10 years of age - being elbows at 9.5 years old. But in the end - does it really matter?
What is important is that JAG was the most reliable, solid in the mind, easy, wise, and dignified golden I have ever known. He learned what to do and not to do with ease - never had to ask him something twice. In his 11 years, I never had to raise my voice to him. He was the first adult golden that ever went with puppies and felt that was his greatest thrill to lay on his back and have the whole litter of puppies jump, crawl, chew on him. He was a kind gentle soul and my best friend. His love of life was obvious in the way he lived with his 2 legged family and his 4 legged family. His spot on the bed can never be replaced.
JAG will be loved and missed terribly in this household. The dignity and wiseness he protrayed will be extremely hard pawprints to follow. The following was a poem that my daughter wrote about JAG as a puppy which was published in the GRNews and won the Florida State Children's Poem Competition.
Golden Hair
Little Puppy with the Golden Hair, won't you come play with me.
We will dance and sing, jump and swim, happy as can be.
Just you and me, we will run and laugh, kiss and twirl,
and we will wake up all the butterflies so they can see the world.
