Achievements:
My Troy.... Once in awhile a dog comes along that completely changes your life. Not because they do a lot of winning and everyone knows who you/they are or because they sire pups that go on to do great things – but because they themselves change you. I was given a blessing with this in Troy. At 14 weeks he broke away from me at a Fun Field Day and retrieved the duck on a land demo before the adult dog could do it. I knew then that my life was heading down a different path with this boy. He taught me that Camo was Cool, that I could handle a dead duck with effort, and more importantly be made me SEE what this breed was bred for. He was a natural in everyway shape and form. He was a dream to live with, a machine in the field, a comic when I needed to laugh and my warm fuzzie when I needed to cry. He was a gentle giant – a big ole boy who still thought he could sit in my lap and watch TV. Tara and her friends called him Richard Gere because he was so handsome, laid back and such a gentleman at ALL times. He gave me anything and everything I ever wanted or needed with ease, style, and grace. All he wanted for his efforts were to be told …You are MY Toy-Troy and he was happy. My world crashed this past weekend. I came home from the barn Friday night and he didn’t meet me at the door. Instead he sat very regal in the greatroom with his tail wagging and that silly Troy smile on his face. His gums were pale so we went to the ER. He stabilized within hours and nothing could be found so we came home. I decided to have him checked out the next morning as I knew he was slightly off and we did indeed find by echo a 4.3 cm mass in his right atrium. All his organs were fine/clear, lungs clear, no arthritis on xrays, solid hard working condition. Prognosis was grave with high risk of sudden death within 24-72 hours. I had to say Good-Bye to my BEST buddie knowing that all was wrong was his “heart” – which is what made him so special. Troy left me because of a broken heart and now I am trying to recover from one. There is only one shining light in all of this…..I can only hope that there are beautiful clear blue ponds and lakes with tons of ducks where he is now and he is happy. You Soar there big guy!
